I created Mariposa Heartworks because of my love for the transformative connection between people and animals. Animals have walked with me for my whole life, companioning me through everything and guiding me to my next steps as a holistic veterinary technician and healer.
As a life-long student I have taken classes and obtained certifications in Equine Sports Massage, Healing Touch for Animals, Chikly Institute Brain and Lymphatic work (though I only use it for personal animals and I don't work on humans).
With a Biology degree from Sweet Briar College in Virginia and years of experience managing horses and my love of rehabilitating animals with special needs, I obtained an Associates of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology from Front Range Community College in Colorado.
My adrenaline fix was satisfied after working in an Emergency clinic after I graduated. Discovering that I love nursing care and the connection with special needs animals and animal elders, I kept learning and studying. Herbs, homeopathy, healing modalities and the like, have kept my great attention for about fifteen years now.
Wanting to learn more about the human side of animals, I was given the opportunity to work with two therapists who practiced Equine Assisted Learning and Therapy near Houston. As their equine professional, I learned to appreciate how horses (and other animals) read us. I wanted to understand how we could provide less stress for them.
That led me to obtain my Mentor/Coach certification from HeartMath so I could help people to learn to be more present with themselves, which then affected their animals positively. While flowing down that river of learning, I obtained certification through Pet Loss Partners and became a certified Pet Loss Grief Support Specialist. Winding everything together depending on the needs of the client and the animal, I find Mariposa Heartworks is an accurate combination of skills that optimizes the human-animal bond.
The result of winding everything together is Mariposa Heartworks. It is my best presentation of skills to optimize the human-animal bond.
Outside of my work, I enjoy cooking for my dogs, perfecting sourdough bread, fostering orphaned kittens, studying cat behavior, volunteering at a local animal shelter and sometimes the wildlife center.
