Our animals inspire us to be our best and to keep learning. We adore them. They are generous. They don't judge us when we don't get what they are trying to show us. We attract them as much as they attract us. What if they wanted us to take care of ourselves as much as we care for them? What if this opened even greater possibilities for healing?
"We teach best what we most need to learn."
-Richard Bach
I'm talking about self-care for passionate animal guardians! Many special needs horses, dogs, cats, goats, chickens and other creatures have always encouraged me to STOP and work on myself in addition to helping them. After that, great things often happen for both of us. A delightful sense of presence emerges from the brink of exhaustion and stress. It's something I love to teach because I am always learning more about it.
Enter self-care for animal guardians. Often this happens as a result of a crash course; an animal elder or an intensive recovery case. The beloved animal has many needs. The human is exhausted. While managing life, somehow it's all getting done, but at what expense? And less frequently, it comes in the form of being proactive. These people may have been through some intense times with previous animals, so they're inspired not to exhaust themselves again.
The ideal client and animal caregiver considers the WHOLE picture. Included in the whole, is finding ways to optimize wellness within our relationship. I teach animal caregivers to learn to be more present with themselves and from that place, with their animals. It's at this intersection where we can connect with our beloveds and make sound decisions from a place of peaceful connection.
From this heart-centered space, our animals feel more freedom on their path. We are calm and grounded when they have the most need for a stable partner. We are able to be a strong advocate from this place and we are able to truly sense what our animals are showing us. It's the fuel we need to take decisive action on their behalf.
Healing happens with much more ease when we learn to be less attached to the outcome. Trust me, I understand wanting them to get better! When we learn to stay in the flow, ask the right questions, see their Divine Spark and emphasize what they CAN do, options open up rapidly. The caregiver also benefits from the opportunity to see from a fresh perspective and to stay connected with their own inner guidance.
This is where I can help the most.. From this space, we can access tremendous insight and understand what our animals are showing us. We have the most accurate and objective information that may give us greater opportunity to help our animals to recover.
